Six basic principles for protecting yacht engines.

1, engine preventive maintenance

Good maintenance maintains high engine productivity, controls yacht operating costs, extends equipment life, reduces downtime, and increases the value of older machines.

2, follow the maintenance schedule

Maintenance time can be calculated according to engine running hours or fuel consumption, divided into maintenance when needed, daily maintenance, first 250 hours of maintenance, every 250 hours of maintenance, every 500 hours of maintenance, every 1000 hours of maintenance, each 2000 hours of maintenance, every 3,000 hours of maintenance, eight stages of maintenance per 6000 hours.

3, pay attention to the use of lubricants

Lubricating oil reduces friction between the surface of the part and reduces wear and frictional power losses. Take away some of the heat absorbed by engine parts and metal abrasive particles and other impurities to clean engine parts. Neutralizes acidic materials to prevent them from corroding engine parts and prevent rusting of engine parts.

4, to avoid cooling system failure

More than 50% of engine damage is caused by the failure of the cooling system. The causes of the failure are: 1) overheating, leakage of the pump, blockage of the radiator, and cavitation of the cylinder liner. These faults can be avoided with proper maintenance. Maintenance of the coolant is important to the life and performance of the engine.

Reduce the cooling system failure Use the correct starting procedure 1) After the engine reaches the normal operating temperature, load the engine again. Remove foreign objects from the radiator and fan. 2) Check the seal on the radiator cover to ensure that the rubber seal is not damaged. Check the pump for leaks or oil leakage every day. 3) Select the correct coolant. The coolant has three parts: water additive, ethylene glycol, which prevents heat conduction, prevents boiling and freezing, prevents corrosion, prevents mineral deposits, prevents cavitation, and resists foaming.

5. Maintain the fuel system

Compared with 30% in 1970, fuel costs now account for 60% to 90% of total engine operating costs. Fuel costs are the biggest expense in the entire use of the engine, and pollutants can enter the fuel from the outside world, causing malfunctions. Even if you can't see it with your naked eyes, you can't care. Only one spoon of dust in the fuel tank can damage an injector within 8 hours. Proper maintenance of the fuel system is critical to the proper operation of the engine.

Check the fuel tank cap and the fuel tank vent pipe while the engine is running and repair it in time. When repairing the engine, have a clean repair site and cover all the disassembled pipes and openings.

6, planned overhaul

Overhaul consideration time (X) and cost (Y): 1, planned maintenance and repair; 2, unplanned maintenance and repair; overhaul to consider overhaul before failure. It is meaningful to have a planned overhaul before the failure, so as to avoid costly unplanned downtime; many original parts can be used according to the reusable parts standard; the engine life can be extended without significant damage due to engine damage The danger of disaster; for every one hour of life, the best cost/value ratio can be obtained. If the engine must have been disassembled and a major engine has to be disassembled, the engine block or crankshaft needs to be repaired and must be overhauled. Overhaul considerations affect the time of overhaul: regular maintenance performance of lubricants, antifreeze and fuel, proper installation, proper operating environment, engine speed and load.
